The Tottenham Grammar School Foundation

Welcome to the Foundation

Empowering the education of young people in Haringey

The Tottenham Grammar School Foundation (TGSF) is an educational charity that supports children and young people under the age of 25, who live in the London Borough of Haringey

We provide grants and financial assistance to help young people access education, training and development opportunities*

​

We also support schools, charities and voluntary organisations that work with young people across Haringey

About us

The Tottenham Grammar School Foundation was established in 1988 and operates under a Scheme approved by the Charity Commission

The Foundation is governed by eleven Trustees, two of whom are nominated by the London Borough of Haringey. You can find out about our Trustees here

Children Returning to School

Support available for individuals

Somerset Awards

Supports students under 25, enrolled on a full-time vocational Further Education (FE) course, not GCSE/AS/A Levels

​

Eligibility:

• resident in the London Borough of Haringey and

• attended a state-maintained secondary school for the majority of their secondary school education

​

The Somerset Award is generally a one-off grant but, at the Trustees' discretion, if a student proves progress and good attendance during the year, a second or subsequent award may be granted

​

Applications:

• Open 1 May, close 28 February each year

• From 2026, all applications must be submitted online

Somerset Undergraduate Awards

Supports students under 25 studying a full-time undergraduate degree or Higher Education (HE) course lasting at least two years

​

Eligibility:

• resident in the London Borough of Haringey and

• attended a state-maintained secondary school for the majority of their secondary school education

​

Paid annually for up to three years with confirmation of enrolment at the start of each academic year.

​

Applications:

• Open 1 May, close 28 February each year

• From 2026, all applications must be submitted online

Somerset Special Awards

Cover a wide range of grants, including postgraduate students, young sportspeople at county level or above, musicians at conservatoire level and children and young people with Special Educational Needs

 

Applications:

  • for children with Special Needs, there is a specific application form for use by the parent, guardian or other appropriate person applying for assistance on their behalf​​​​

  • All other applications should be submitted by letter to the Chair of Trustees, emailed to the Clerk of the Foundation. Click 'Read more' for details on what to include in your application ​​​​​

Other applications for Special Somerset Awards: For postgraduate students, the letter should include details of their education to date and any previous awards received It should also explain how the particular postgraduate study will relate to their degree. If there are any unusual costs relating to the postgraduate year, e.g. compulsory travel abroad or research equipment, it is recommended that details of those are also mentioned in the letter The monetary value of this type of Award is typically equivalent to one year of the Somerset Undergraduate Award. Please note that applicants must be below the age of 25 on the 1st September in the year of the relevant course of study ​ For young sportspeople who are at county standard or higher, the letter should include details of their sporting achievements, e.g. ranking(s), times, etc. It must also be accompanied by a letter of support/verification from their coach/trainer​ ​​For musicians who are at conservatoire standard, a letter of support from their music tutor or the Haringey Music and Performing Arts Service should be provided​ ​​All applicants should include their date of birth and be prepared to submit documentary evidence in support of all material facts stated in their application if requested

At the Tottenham Grammar School Foundation, we provide support to create opportunities for every child to succeed, regardless of their background​

 

Our Somerset Grants support Maintained Schools, Children's Centres and Nurseries in Haringey​

Voluntary organisations, charities and other NFP groups who work with young people resident in Haringey, can apply for assistance through a Somerset Grant

Trustee Meetings

Trustees meet every 8-10 weeks

 

Funding applications from schools and voluntary organisations are considered only at Awards Committee meetings

​

Forms must reach the Clerk at least 11 days before an Awards meeting. Meeting dates and deadlines can be found below

​

In between meetings, the Chair of Trustees may agree to approve some lower value applications

​

These timelines do not apply to individual Somerset Awards
